CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY
Briefly, What Is It?
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a relaxing light touch therapy where the body is encouraged to loosen restrictions and increase fluid flow through and around the spinal cord and brain. It helps the nervous system function better so your body can support you during stress.
Further Details
Just like the body has a rhythm with circulation and breathing, there is a craniosacral rhythm when cerebrospinal fluid is produced and drained. By lightly touching anywhere on the body, your therapist can monitor this rhythm and feel for limited movement in the tissues. With gentle manual techniques, often utilizing the cranial bones and sacrum as levers, immobile spots are released and your body’s own healing capabilities are enhanced.
An Analogy
In one way, it is like rebooting your computer – the nervous system pauses and resets itself. In another way, it is like pulling a boat in the water – you must pull slowly to initiate movement, but then it can be directed freely. CST uses both concepts to get at the core of the problem.
